Clear all seven columns by matching cards one rank up or down to win

What is Golf Solitaire

The fast, matching patience game

Golf Solitaire is a single-player game played with one 52-card deck. Seven columns of five face-up cards sit above one foundation pile. Play a column card onto the foundation when it is exactly one rank higher or lower, in any suit, and keep chaining until nothing matches. Clear all seven columns to win — no hidden cards, no rebuilding runs, just reading the board.

Classic or Relaxed
Play the traditional ruleset where Ace and King stay apart, or switch to Relaxed and let them connect for a noticeably higher win rate. Both are first-class, with separate stats.
Plays in your browser
No download, no install, no plugins. playgolfsolitaire.app deals a game the moment the page loads, on desktop and mobile.

Progress saved locally
Best time, best score, longest chain, and win streak for each ruleset are stored on your device — never on a server.

How to play

How to play Golf Solitaire

Golf is a game of reading the board. Match column tops one rank up or down from the foundation, chain as far as you can, and turn the stock only when you are truly stuck.

  1. 1

    Read the deal

Thirty-five cards go into seven tableau columns of five, all dealt face up — there is nothing hidden in Golf Solitaire. One more card starts the foundation pile, and the remaining sixteen form the face-down stock.

  2. 2

    Match up or down

Tap the top card of any column that is exactly one rank higher or one rank lower than the foundation’s top card — suit and color never matter. A 7 plays on a 6 or an 8, a 6 of any suit plays on either.

  3. 3

    Draw when you are stuck

When no column top matches, turn the stock to flip a new card onto the foundation and try again. The stock only goes through once — sixteen cards, sixteen chances, no reshuffling the waste.

  4. 4

    Clear the tableau to win

Play continues until every column is empty (a win) or no column matches and the stock is spent (a stuck game). Cards left in the stock when you clear the board add a bonus to your score.

Tips to win more games

  • Scan all seven columns before you draw — a match you missed costs nothing, but a stock card burned by accident is gone for the game.
  • Favor the column with the most cards buried under its top card; clearing it opens the most future options.
  • Remember play is reversible in rank: after playing a 6 on a 7, you can immediately follow with a 5, then a 4, walking a run down or back up as long as columns keep matching.
  • Chain as many tableau plays as you can before drawing — every card in an unbroken chain is worth more than the last.
  • In Classic mode, treat Aces and Kings with extra care since they cannot connect to each other; plan a path through the 2s and Queens instead.
  • If two columns both match, prefer the one that unlocks a card matching more of your remaining columns, not just the closest rank.
  • Use undo freely to test a line — there is no penalty, and Golf rewards seeing two or three moves ahead.

FAQ

Golf Solitaire, answered

Straight answers about the free Golf Solitaire card game you can play online in your browser.

What is Golf Solitaire?

Golf Solitaire is a single-player card-matching game played with one standard 52-card deck. Seven columns of five face-up cards sit above a single foundation pile. You clear the tableau by playing cards that are exactly one rank higher or lower than the foundation’s top card, regardless of suit. Emptying all seven columns wins the hand.

How do you play Golf Solitaire?

Deal seven columns of five face-up cards (35 cards) and flip one more card to start the foundation. The other sixteen cards form the stock. Play the top card of any column onto the foundation when its rank is one away from the foundation’s top card. When nothing matches, turn the stock once for a new foundation card. Win by clearing every column; the stock does not need to be empty.

Is Golf Solitaire free to play online?

Yes. playgolfsolitaire.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a game is already dealt.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

What is the difference between Classic and Relaxed?

Classic follows the traditional rule that an Ace and a King are never adjacent, so a King can only connect to a Queen and an Ace only to a 2. Relaxed adds the common house rule of "turning the corner": an Ace and a King count as one rank apart, so you can chain straight between them. Relaxed noticeably raises how many deals you can clear. Stats are tracked separately for each.

How does scoring work?

Every card played to the foundation is worth 10 points. Chaining plays without drawing from the stock adds a growing bonus — 5 extra for the second card in a row, 10 extra for the third, and so on. Drawing from the stock resets the chain but never subtracts points. Clearing the tableau adds 5 points for every card still left in the stock, rewarding a clean, efficient clear.

Can I move a card back off the foundation?

No. The foundation only ever shows its top card, and once a tableau card lands there it stays. There is no way to pull a card back down to the tableau — undo is the only way to reverse a move.

Is every game of Golf Solitaire winnable?

No. Because the tableau can never be reordered and the stock runs only once, many deals genuinely have no path to clearing all seven columns, and you cannot always tell in advance. Public results across large samples put human win rates for Classic Golf Solitaire in the range of roughly 15-30%; Relaxed mode, which lets an Ace and King connect, wins noticeably more often. If you get stuck, deal a new game.

How do I win more games?

Check every column for a legal match before you ever touch the stock — a missed tableau match is the most common way a winnable deal is lost. Favor columns with more cards buried beneath the top one, remember a chain of ranks can move forward and backward through the same numbers, and use undo to test a line before committing to it.

Does the game save my progress?

Your best score, best time, best move count, longest chain, games played, and win streak are saved locally in your browser for both Classic and Relaxed. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A game in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play Golf Solitaire on mobile?

Yes. The layout is built for touch: tap a matching column card and it plays immediately, or drag it to the foundation if you prefer. All seven tableau columns and the foundation fit on one portrait screen, and dealing a new game is instant with no page reload.
